Taplejung, which has a population of 120,000, has received more than 250,000 tourists in 2082.

Pathibhara has received the most tourists in the district, with 238,700. The Kanchenjunga region has been visited by 1,400 foreign tourists and other domestic tourists.

Tourism activities are especially high in the district from Falgun to Baisakh and from Asoj to Mangsir. Pathibhara, which passes through the district headquarters of Phungling, has tourism activities all year round, says Prajin Hangwang, executive director of the Pathibhara Area Development Committee. ‘There are statistics that at least 4,000 and a maximum of 48,000 tourists come to Pathibhara from outside the district every month,’ said Hangwang. ‘This shows that an average of 500 tourists come to Taplejung every day.’

One foreign tourist brings up to five Nepalis to the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, said Tashi Sherpa, a tourism assistant at the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council. ‘We have also started keeping statistics on domestic tourists coming from outside the district,’ said Tashi. ‘Nowadays, there are about the same number of foreign and domestic tourists. Foreigners have guides, cooks, and porters, while the number of Nepalis is less.’

There are two main seasons in the year that are considered suitable for visiting the Kanchenjunga area. The first season is from Chaitra to Jestha and the second season is from Asoj to Mangsir. Last year, there were 750 foreign tourists in the first season, according to the Ghunsa check post of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council. Locals said that there are almost three times as many domestic tourists.

Tourism entrepreneur and member of the Faktanglung Rural Municipality Executive Committee Serap Sherpa informed that the number of tourists is good in the second season as well.  Serap says that the number of Nepali tourists has increased significantly in the area, which was not seen until five years ago.

In Pathibhara, the number of tourists is kept on a monthly basis.  According to the data of the Pathibhara Area Development Committee, 38,170 people came in Baisakh, 16,210 in Jestha and 4,078 in Ashar.

2,146 people came in Shrawan, 4,533 in Bhadau, 29,174 in Asoj, 42,261 in Kartik and 19,181 in Mangsir.  Information Technology Coordinator Santosh Kumar Sarki said that 5,991 people visited in Poush, 10,323 in Magh, 18,652 in Falgun and the highest number of 48,155 people visited in Chait, the year's highest, in 2019. Apart from Pathibhara and Kanchenjunga, tourists also visit Laliguras in the Gufa Pokhari area, Fungfunge in Mikwakhola and Dhangdhange waterfalls in Sidingwa, and Timbung Pokhari area in Sidingwa. Local tourism entrepreneur Amir Rai said that even foreign tourists from Sikkim and Bihar in India visit Timbung Pokhari.
