A six-member team including Prof. Dr. Laxman Khanal of the Central Department of Zoology, Tribhuvan University, and Dr. Prabhesh Sharma, senior veterinarian at the Central Referral Veterinary Hospital, coordinated by Bikash Shrestha, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, arrived in Diktel for initial phase on-site monitoring and study, said Tirtharaj Bhattarai, mayor of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality.
According to him, work will begin from Monday after making an action plan. Bikash Shrestha, coordinator of the team, said that monkey sterilization and other methods will be studied for monkey control in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality for 2 years.
An agreement was signed on Chaitra 11 between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality and the Central Department of Zoology of Tribhuvan University regarding monkey control. 'After a pilot study and research conducted for 2 years in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, the monkey control program will be expanded to other parts of the country,' Shrestha said.
