A businessman from Jhapa has been arrested on charges of attempting to rape a teenager.
According to the District Police Office, Jhapa, on March 15 at around 1:15 pm, Pradeep Mittal, a 62-year-old resident of Birtamod, attempted to rape a teenager from Pathibhara Tole, Mechinagar Municipality-14.
The teenager had filed a complaint against Mittal at the Area Police Office, Dhulabari, under the Rape Unit, on March 16.
Mittal, who was absconding after the incident, appeared at the Area Police Office, Dhulabari on Monday. Immediately after that, the police took him into custody and registered a case under the Criminal Code, 2074 BS. The police said that further investigation has been initiated by obtaining permission for a five-day extension of his remand from the District Court, Dhulabari.
