After a child died due to health problems while returning from Pathibhara, the Pathibhara Area Development Committee and the District Police Office, Tapleju have urged people to immediately coordinate with health workers and the police if they notice any health problems. The police and the area development office made this request after 30-month-old Sohan Shrestha of Hilihang Rural Municipality-2, Panchthar, died on Monday while returning from a pilgrimage to Pathibhara.

'If any health-related problem arises during the pilgrimage, we urge you to immediately contact the primary care center, police post or tourist police assistance desk at Kaflepati in the upper foothills,' said a statement issued by the District Police Office's Information Officer, Police Inspector Tashankar Yadav. There are also other incidents of people falling ill and dying due to cold in Pathibhara.

Pathibhara Area Development Committee Chairman Rocky Thebe says that health workers have been deployed under the leadership of AHEB in the upper foothills and that the area development committee staff also help if anyone is in trouble. The committee has stated that more effective arrangements will be made in health, safety and emergency services to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

‘Considering the risks that may arise due to the current weather and altitude, the sick, disabled, young children and elderly people are requested to take special precautions,’ the notice issued by the Area Development Committee said. ‘In case of any health and safety-related problems, you are requested to contact the police post in Kaflepati and Phedi and the health institution in Phedi.’

The child, who had gone for a visit to Pathibhara on Monday, fell ill while returning to his relatives. He was taken to the District Hospital in Taplejung after experiencing breathing problems. The doctor informed him that he was in a serious condition when he was taken to the hospital. Police Inspector Yadav informed that he was declared dead after half an hour of treatment at the hospital. The child had previously suffered from pneumonia and was found to have pneumonia when he was returned from Pathibhara, hospital sources said.
