Halesi Tuwachung Municipality has seized the vehicle of a construction company that is causing the under-construction municipal hospital to be abandoned. The Suzuki car with the registration number Bagmati Province 16 Cha 6802, driven by Ramesh Basnet, a member of Himalayan JV Biratnagar, who was involved in the construction of the hospital without completing the work after taking the contract, was seized on Sunday.

Halesi Tuwachung Municipality Mayor Bimala Rai said that they had summoned the company after it failed to comply with repeated requests on legal grounds. Rai said that after seizing the vehicle, a written information was also given to the District Administration Office, Khotang, on Sunday. Mayor Rai said that the company had also taken a written commitment to work after seizing the vehicle after informing it that it would be blacklisted for not doing its job.

The commitment letter promises to start work from Chaitra 12, pour the casement cover slab within 45 days, complete the first floor slab within 60 days, and complete the second floor slab within 60 days. Rai said that the vehicle will be handed over to the concerned person after the progress of the work is seen. ‘We have been repeatedly warned on legal grounds, and if we fail to comply, we will be blacklisted, and an agreement has been made to take control of the vehicle and work,’ Rai said, ‘It has been agreed to hand over the vehicle after the progress is seen.’

Municipality seizes construction company vehicle that left Halesi's municipal hospital stranded The construction company had signed an agreement on July 7, 2078 to complete the work by July 7, 2080. The then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli laid the foundation stone of the hospital building with a budget of Rs 119.99 million (excluding VAT) from the federal government, Kamal Giri, spokesperson for Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, said that 396 hospital buildings across the country were laid together by the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The construction period has been extended repeatedly after the building was not completed on time. In the recent period, the executive meeting on Asar 29, 2082 extended the deadline for the third time until Shrawan 7, 2083. Only the pillars of the base of the building have been lifted.

Nawaraj Katwal, the accounting officer of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, said that about 34 percent, or 40 million rupees, has been paid so far. The amount was paid for the initial running bill. After that, the work was not paid after it stalled.

According to Giri, the work was stalled after the company involved in the construction left because it did not pay the workers. Giri said that the workers worked until last Mangsir but left after not receiving the money. Giri said that the work started after making a written commitment.

Ramesh Basnet, who is involved in the construction, has said that he will work as mentioned in the commitment letter. The locals had provided 9 ropanis of land for the said hospital free of cost.
