Jang Bahadur Prasad Thakur, former principal of Himalaya Secondary School in Khandbari, Sankhuwasabha, passed away on Thursday.

He passed away at the age of 81 on Thursday at his private residence in Begusarai, Bihar, India.

Born in India on Asoj 19, 2001, Thakur spent 40 years in Khandbari to spread the light of education. His contribution to the development of Himalaya Secondary School in Khandbari is considered incomparable.

He started teaching in Khandbari by walking from Dharan in 2022 and worked as the principal of Himalaya Secondary School from 2036 to 2061. He played an important role in establishing the school as the best educational institution in the district by leading the school for a long time, said Tara Bahadur Budhathoki, the current principal of Himawari. The students he taught have reached high positions in the Nepal government today.  

Thakur Sir was courageous and temperamental by nature, said Principal Budhathoki, strict discipline was his specialty, he was harsh on mischievous students, but he was a very loving and inspiring personality for honest and hardworking students. His balanced behavior developed both discipline and confidence in the students, he said.

He formally bid farewell to the school on 19 Paush 2061, taking compulsory retirement. His contribution and influence are still alive in every classroom of the school and the success of the students, he said. Thakur Sir's death has left not only the school but also the entire educational world of Sankhuwasabha region in mourning. He will be remembered as a 'guru who lights the lamp of knowledge' in the field of education.

He said that Janga Bahadur Prasad Thakur's life struggle, dedication and unwavering loyalty to education will remain a source of inspiration for today's and tomorrow's generations.
