The price of a half-filled 7.1-kg LP gas cylinder has been fixed at Rs 1,300 per cylinder in the district. Earlier, the price of a 14.2-kg full cylinder in the district headquarters, Phungling, was Rs 2,200. Based on this, the price of a half-filled cylinder has been set at Rs 2,000 more than the price of a half-filled cylinder, which should have been Rs 1,100.

Nepal Oil Corporation, on the other hand, has set the price of a half-filled cylinder at Rs 9,550. Bikash Gautam, President of the Taplejung Chamber of Commerce and Industry, claims that despite the increase in the price of petroleum products and the decrease in the weight of the cylinder, the price has had to be kept at Rs 1,300 due to transportation costs.

A gathering of gas cylinder sellers in the district was held on Wednesday. Gautam says that despite the reduced weight, the transportation costs have increased due to the space occupied by the cylinder during transportation. ‘Despite the reduced weight, the transportation cost has increased because the cylinder container occupies the same space, and the transportation cost has also increased after the price of petroleum products has increased. That is why it has become relatively higher,’  Gautam said.

Gautam also claims that Chief District Officer Shivraj Sedhai was informed about this in advance. After understanding the situation, Chief District Officer Sedhai took the initiative to bring fully filled cylinders to the district, but the Chamber of Commerce has stated that it was not possible.
