A woman in critical condition in a remote area of the district has been rescued by helicopter. Saru Rai, 28, of Makalu Rural Municipality-1, was rescued by helicopter after her condition suddenly became critical.

Rai's health condition suddenly deteriorated after undergoing surgery at the Sankhuwasabha District Hospital at 8 am on Wednesday, the hospital said. Her condition had become even more critical due to excessive bleeding.

As immediate specialist treatment was required for further treatment, the rescue process was initiated as per the Air Rescue Procedure 2077 for Pregnant and Postpartum Women in Critical Condition in Remote Areas.

Dr. Pradeep Sriwal of the District Hospital informed that the patient was able to be sent to the Paropkar Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in Kathmandu for further treatment due to timely rescue arrangements.

According to Chief District Officer Sirjana Thapaliya, air rescue is proving to be a lifesaver in such emergencies where health services are not readily available in remote areas.
