Sidingwa Rural Municipality has decided to seek help from the federal and provincial governments after the storms on Sunday and Monday damaged dozens of houses and public property.

Rural Municipality Chairman Man Bahadur Rai said that the complete details of the damage could not be collected till Tuesday. According to the details given to the rural municipality by the locals, 14 houses have been completely damaged and 13 have been partially damaged.

Rural Municipality Chairman Rai said that the ward chairmen have been requested to confirm this and submit all the details to the municipality by Wednesday. The damage is more than the initial details, according to the municipality chairman Rai.

He said on the telephone on Tuesday afternoon, ‘I have also reached Limbudin with a JCB to remove fallen trees. Large Simal and Baraka trees have fallen here. It has also blocked the road and made it very difficult to reach. Although the Simal tree hit the house, human damage was avoided.'

According to the details made public by the Samraddha Sidingwa Civil Unity Society, the houses of Deubahadur Khudang, Jeevan Imbung, Roman Imbung of Ward-7 Surumkhim, Tika Rai of Limbudin, and Ram Kumar Limbu were completely damaged by the wind.

Similarly, the houses of Yogesh Begha, Hari Begha, Sushmita Rai Begha of Kalikhala, Chandra Bishwakarma of Mehele, Man Kumar Sotang of Mehele, Kesharman Shrestha, Sanjeep Rai, Yam Lingden, and Jang Bahadur Pandak of Sablakhu were completely damaged. The society has stated that the houses of Man Kumar Tamang, Yubaraj Tamang, Rajkumar Lingden, Dhan Bahadur Baniya, Sher Bahadur Baniya, Khadga Gautam, and Kumar Gautam of Mehele suffered partial damage. It is mentioned that the Mukubhanjyang Dharamshala in Mehele, the old VDC building and the school building in Sadeva have been damaged.

‘It is not possible to see how much the roof of the house has been blown off,’ said Chairman Rai, ‘We have already brought a procedure to provide relief to the village council, but it has not done anything. We are seeking help from the provincial government and the federal government.’ Rai says that the century-old Simal and Baraka trees have caused great damage.

After the recommendation from the ward on Wednesday, the relief to be provided by the municipality will be provided immediately and the village council is preparing to write a report of the damage to the District Disaster Management Committee and request other bodies, said Vice Chairman Krishna Kumari Kadariya.
