Dalit rights activists in the district have demanded action against those involved in the rape and murder of Inisha BK.
They submitted a memorandum to the Home Ministry on Tuesday through the District Administration Office. Netra Nepali, coordinator of the Joint Political Dalit Struggle Committee, had submitted a memorandum to Assistant Chief District Officer Yadav Bhattarai, saying that the guilty should not escape like in the past incidents. Dalit rights activists, who reached the District Administration Office with a silent rally from Birendra Chowk in Phungling Bazaar, have warned against giving immunity to those involved in the murder by making any excuses.
Dalit Ekta Samaj President and Dalit rights activist Gangaram Shankar said that the heinous crimes like rape have made teenage girls feel unsafe day by day. He also demanded that the government ensure security to prevent such incidents from happening. He warned of strong resistance if any attempt is made to weaken the investigation. 'The rights activists believe that incidents like untouchability, discrimination, humiliation, rape, and murder are being committed against the Dalit community and Dalit women in a series. "We have taken the issue of political and administrative pressure to weaken the investigation seriously," the memorandum said. Handing over the memorandum, Nepali also demanded that those involved in the murder be taken to task immediately and that appropriate compensation be provided after assessing the physical and psychological damage suffered by the victim's family. Students of Pathibhara Campus also demonstrated on Monday for justice for BK.
