A Gurung couple who came to the UK from Pokhara have supported the Taplejung Eye Hospital. Khadka Bahadur Gurung and Purna Kumari Gurung have established a fund of Rs 105,000 for the eye treatment of the underprivileged.
The Dichen Dongala Memorial Eye Treatment Center, run by the Nepal Netrajyoti Association, has been operating such a fund since last year. According to President Rajkumar Gurung, the amount received from the interest of the fund will be spent on eye tests and surgeries for the underprivileged.
Khadka Bahadur said that he visited the eye hospital while visiting Taplejung and after learning about the fund, he felt like doing something and helped out. He said that he would continue to be vigilant about the amount he donated and who received what kind of service from it.
According to Kazi Gurung, the clinic in-charge of the treatment center, 80 percent of the interest earned from the amount deposited in the revolving fund will be spent on the treatment of poor and helpless eye patients. The procedure has been made so that the remaining 20 percent amount will be added to the principal.
