A youth from Yangwarak Rural Municipality-2, Pathibhara, Taplejung has been arrested on charges of torturing a monkey. According to Police Inspector Jatashankar Yadav, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Taplejung, 21-year-old Chhuppu Hemwaya, a resident of Singhpur, Hilihang Rural Municipality-2, Panchthar, and residing in Yangwarak, Pathibhara, has been arrested.
He had posted a video on social media of him torturing a monkey caught in a trap set to protect crops in the field and using a dog. In the video, the monkey is seen being tortured. Many other monkeys are also seen in the video. Some of them appear to be scared. The police had searched for the youth after animal rights activists and other organizations complained. He was arrested in this manner.
Although this incident took place before the elections to the House of Representatives, the date has not been confirmed. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ved Prasad Gautam said that legal proceedings will be taken against the arrested youth.
