The deposits of 11 candidates in the House of Representatives election have been confiscated in Khotang. Rudra Giri, the candidate of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party, which has become the largest party in the country, and 11 others have had their deposits confiscated.
According to Rabin Magar, Chief of the District Election Office Khotang, the deposits of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party candidate Giri, Miresh Rai of the Rashtriya Parivartan Party, Deepak Tamang of the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party, Rakesh Rai of the Janata Samajwadi Party, Chandra Bahadur Budhathoki of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist), Sunil Chamling of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Prayag Rai of the Mongol National Organization, Dhyan Prasad Dhakal of the Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party, Kesarman Chamling of the Miteri Party, and independent candidates Tilak Chandra Rai and Rajkumar Rai have been confiscated.
Magar said that the deposits were confiscated because they did not bring 10 percent of the votes cast. In order to avoid forfeiture of the deposit, 5,638 votes were required. In Khotang, Shram Sanskriti Party candidate Aren Rai got 16,612 votes, UML's Dev Bikram Rai got 12,714 votes, Congress' Birkaji Rai got 11,957 votes, Nepali Communist Party's Hari Roka got 9,443 votes, and Rashtriya Swatantra Party's Rudra Giri got 5,704 votes. Out of 62,577 votes cast in the district, 58,638 votes were valid and 3,928 votes were invalid.
