Dharan Children's Network, which has been on a hunger strike to death after allegations that children were used in election campaigning, and the Office of the Election Officer of Sunsari-1 have reached a five-point written agreement, including sending a recommendation to the concerned body to cancel the candidacy of Shram Sanskriti Party's proportional candidate Meena Singhak.
After talks between representatives of the Children's Network and Sunsari-1 Election Officer Divyaraj Ghimire on Tuesday, it was agreed to send the demands raised by the network in writing to the concerned body, informed the coordinator of the network, Rojan Shankar. The agreement was signed by the head of the Area Administration Office, Dharan, Phanindra Dahal.
According to Election Officer Ghimire, the hunger strike was broken after it was agreed to send the demands of the Children's Network to the concerned body. He said that talks were held between both parties after the hunger strike affected the regular work of the office.
The Children's Network had started a hunger strike to death in front of the Election Office of Sunsari-1 in Dharan Sub-metropolitan City-8 from 12 am on Tuesday. The complaint regarding violation of the code of conduct and violation of child rights was met with a demand for immediate action, saying that no action had been taken on it. The
network has raised the issue of Shram Sanskriti Party proportional candidate Meena Singhak posting a promotional video on social media showing children wearing Hark Sampang T-shirts as a violation of the code of conduct. The five-point demand letter states that action should be taken against Shram Sanskriti Party candidate Singh and the then ward chair of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City Ward No. 4, Dhan Bahadur Rai.
Similarly, the demand includes legal action against those involved in acts against the code of conduct, the state taking responsibility for the safety of children's network members, and action against those who post character assassination, abuse and negative content on social media. The
network has accused Shram Sanskriti Party candidates Hark Sampang and Uddhav Shrestha of involving children in sloganeering, rallies and propaganda campaigns during the election campaign.
Earlier, on Falgun 13 and 17, the network had filed a petition with evidence alleging that various political parties had used children in election campaigns. However, the network sat on a sit-in, alleging that the Sunsari-1 election office had not forwarded the petition to the district level.
On Magh 11, network representative Rojan Shankar and chairman Manav Bishwakarma had filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Shram Sanskriti Party chairman Hark Sampang. The Election Commission had imposed a fine of 25,000 rupees on the Shram Sanskriti Party, saying that the explanation was not satisfactory.
