The weekly Thursday Haat, which has been held in Dhankuta Bazaar since the Rana era, will be closed next Thursday.

Dhankuta Municipality has informed through a notice that it has been closed due to the election of members of the House of Representatives on the same day as the weekly Haat. The historic weekly Thursday Haat located in Kopche, Dhankuta Municipality-5 is believed to have started more than a hundred years ago.

According to Dhankuta Municipality Chief Administrative Officer Dasharath Rai, the closure was due to the establishment of a polling station at the place where the Haat is held. According to local resident Ram Shrestha, the Haat was closed on the day of the Constituent Assembly election on 28 Chaitra 2064.

Similarly, the Haat was not held even during the lockdown due to the Corona virus. Shrestha said that the weekly Haat has been held regularly in any other situation. The Thursday Haat is the main place to sell agricultural and livestock products produced by farmers in the district.
