CPN (UML) central member Rajendra Gautam has said that Sunsari-1 is the sacred land of the leftists.
Addressing the UML's large regional general assembly held in Dharan Sub-metropolitan City on Saturday, he mentioned that the area is the land where historical and respected personalities were elected.
He recalled that UML's first people-elected Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari, former Deputy Speaker Leela Shrestha Subba, poet Kunta Sharma, Tara Subba, Manoj Menyangbo, Jayakumar Rai, Bam Dewan and other personalities were elected from this area and served the people.
Stating that Sunsari-1 has created a distinct identity politically and historically, he said that UML has taken this area very seriously. He also appealed to the people for their support by informing them that Tikaram Limbu has been nominated for the direct seat and Mausam Rai for the proportional seat for the upcoming elections.
He said that the sovereignty of the country lies with the people and the country went to the elections to create an environment where the people rule. He said that elections are necessary to bring the constitution on the right track and fully implement it.
Stating that UML is also necessary for the implementation of the new model of national development of 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali', he clarified that some parties are announcing the Prime Minister before the election, according to the constitution, the Prime Minister can be elected only after obtaining a majority of 138 seats in the House of Representatives. He urged the people to be aware of parties that move forward without clarifying their policies, principles and national programs.
Recalling that the 'disaster' of Bhadra 23 and 24 caused great damage to the country, he pointed out the need to take the country towards reorganization and reconstruction from that situation. He said that UML is moving forward on that path.
Sunsari-1 candidate Tikaram Limbu said that the people should elect the party's candidate with vision and policy. He claimed that the party will perform its duties in a transparent and responsible manner as per the commitment made to the people and will effectively implement the development plan by coordinating between the local, provincial and federal levels.
