Press Center Morang has condemned the attack on journalist Arjun Acharya, who had reached Jhapa constituency number 5 for election reporting. The organization has called the incident a direct interference in the freedom of the press and demanded immediate action against the culprits.

A statement issued by Press Center Morang Secretary Anil Shrestha strongly condemned the abuse and beating of Acharya, a central member of Press Center Nepal, executive editor of Hamro Mat and correspondent of 'Ratopati'. He was attacked while he was reporting on KP Sharma Oli's door-to-door program in Kamal Rural Municipality of Jhapa.

The statement mentions that Acharya, who was filming a video, was assaulted by cadres of the 'Volunteers Force' close to the UML and his mobile and camera were snatched away. The group, which arrived in Scorpio number 2561, beat up and looted Acharya in the presence of Chairman Oli, and the Press Center has called the incident 'cowardly'.

'It is highly condemnable that the security personnel remained silent even when a journalist was attacked in front of the party chairman, that the attacker was not brought under control, and that the relevant parties remained silent about the incident,' the statement said. In addition, serious objections have been expressed to the fact that Acharya's mobile phone and glasses were not returned even after the attack.
