A young leader from UML Sunsari has been arrested on charges of posting misleading content on social media targeting candidates of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP).
The arrested person is Biplav Ghosh, a resident of Inaruwa, and he is a youth leader of UML Sunsari, the District Police Office, Sunsari, has said.
According to the police, Ghosh had posted a misleading video targeting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) candidate for Sunsari constituency number-4 on social media.
The police have said that Ghosh was taken into custody after he was found involved in spreading misinformation, fake news and rumors on social media. In addition, the police say that they are searching for other people involved in such activities.
The District Police Office, Sunsari, has informed that social media and various pages are under special surveillance and has requested everyone not to publish and broadcast false information and misleading content.
Earlier, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sunsari had issued a statement demanding action against Ghosh. After the statement, Ghosh apologized on social media. But later, he deleted the apology post and rewrote the status, adding his own comments, stating that he deleted the post 'as per the advice of the high command.' Police say further investigation is underway.
