A team led by National Planning Commission Secretary Ravilal Pant has conducted on-site monitoring and inspection of the North-South (Koshi) Highway from Loving Hill in Khandbari to Kimathanka.
The North-South (Koshi) Highway, listed as a national pride project, is being developed as a tri-national highway. This highway connects a distance of about 345 kilometers from Rani in Morang to Kimathanka in Sankhuwasabha. Under this, the road from Khandbari Loving Hill to Kimathanka in the Sankhuwasabha section is 162 kilometers long.
During the on-site monitoring, Secretary Pant said that the main challenge of the project is the transport connectivity to Kimathanka. Preparations are being made to blacktop the road from Khandbari to Num and although the work so far is satisfactory, he has directed the concerned bodies to complete it within the stipulated time.
'The road section from Barun to Hatiya was found to be in a dilapidated condition,' he said, 'There has been a problem in transport movement due to many vagrants.' He expressed concern over the difficult lifestyle of the residents of Bhotkhola area.
Understanding the progress and milestone details of the Chyamtang-Ghonghappa road section being constructed by the Nepal Army, the North-South (Koshi) Road Project is a top priority in terms of transport connectivity, and therefore, the Planning Commission has expressed its commitment to provide necessary support to resolve the problems and challenges seen from Khandbari to Kimathanka.
The monitoring team included Lokraj Neupane and Bishal Bhandari, Joint Secretaries of the Planning Commission, Rajesh Babu Ghimire, Program Director, Tankanath Lamsal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Binod Kumar Mauwar, Director of the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office under the Road Department, Binod Bhattarai, Deputy Director of the North-South Trade Route Expansion Project Directorate, and Ram Bahadur Gurung, Planning Chief of the North-South (Koshi) Road Project. The team returned to the capital on Thursday after completing the on-site inspection.
