Two monitoring officers have been appointed in Khotang for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21. Assistant Chief District Officer Kopila Rai and Fund Controller Roma Pandey have been appointed as monitoring officers to monitor and take action on whether candidates and political parties have complied with the code of conduct.

The monitoring officer will monitor whether political parties, candidates, fraternal organizations and the media have complied with the code of conduct, said Rabin Magar, head of the District Election Office, Khotang. Since everyone has an equal responsibility to make the election successful, the monitoring officer will take action if anyone is found to have violated the election code of conduct, said Magar.

The monitoring officer will monitor whether or not a person participating in a rally or public meeting or campaigning is wearing or not wearing the election symbol or flag of the party or candidate, or whether or not they are using posters, graffiti, banners, and digital displays as provided in the election code of conduct, said Magar. Monitoring will be conducted on whether or not vehicles were used as per the election code of conduct, whether or not manifestos were made public, whether or not any financial assistance was received from government, public bodies, and non-governmental organizations for election campaigning, whether or not separate accounts were opened in banks and financial institutions for election expenses and whether or not an official was designated to spend the money.

The Election Commission has implemented the Election Code of Conduct 2082 since Magh 4 to make the elections fair, impartial, transparent, and credible. 15 candidates, including two independents, have registered their candidacies for the upcoming elections in Khotang.
