Private school operators in Sunsari have strongly denied the accusations that Itahari Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Hemkarn Poudel incited students to commit arson by sending them to protest during the Genji movement.
At an interaction program with journalists organized by the Higher Education and Secondary School Association (HISAN) Sunsari on Wednesday in Itahari, private school operators have challenged Mayor Poudel to prove his statements, claiming that they are fabricated and baseless.
Mayor Poudel has been making public statements that vandalism and arson occurred only in Itahari during the nationwide Genji movement and demonstration on Bhadra 23 and 24, and that private school operators incited students to set fires by transporting them in school buses. But school operators have said that such allegations are baseless and biased.
HISAN Sunsari President and Central Member Sagar Bhattarai accused the mayor of forgetting the fact that the person who lost his life during the nationwide movement was a student in school uniform. He said that focusing the movement only on Itahari and blaming private schools is unfair and biased.
Similarly, Hisan Central Vice President Mukunda Ghimire commented that Mayor Poudel was trying to forcibly convict private school operators by making fabricated allegations. He said that it was sad that such allegations were repeated repeatedly in public programs and challenged the Mayor to prove the allegations by making the nationwide movement seem like it was only in Itahari.
Hisan Central Secretary Balram Pant clarified that despite sympathizing with the movement that started against the ban on social media, his students were not allowed to participate in vandalism and arson. He said that the accusations made by linking the school's name have defamed the education sector.
After Mayor Poudel repeatedly made allegations against private school operators in various public programs, this is the first time that Hisan Sunsari has challenged him to present evidence in an organized manner. Private school operators have also urged the Mayor to immediately stop the baseless allegations and make a responsible statement.
