For the election to the House of Representatives to be held on February 21, Dr. Devraj Roka (Kalyan), who has registered as an independent candidate from Udayapur Constituency No. 1, has been given the mudha symbol, and Major Kumar Rai, an independent candidate from Constituency No. 2, has been given the bhangero election symbol.

The Chief Electoral Officer and the Office of the Returning Officer gave election symbols to the two candidates who had filed their candidacies as independents after their respective parties did not give them tickets.

Roka had aspired to be the candidate of the UML and Rai from the Nepali Communist Party. They have filed their nominations as independents after the parties did not give them tickets.

Roka, who holds a PhD in political economics, is the former executive vice-chairman of the Youth Empowerment Fund, advisor to the UML's Finance Committee, and a then member of the Finance Ministry's Advisory Committee. Roka had wanted to contest the election from Udayapur Constituency No. 1 in the 2079 elections, but Udayapur had given a ticket to Manju Chaudhary from that constituency. This time, there are 18 candidates, including one independent, in Udayapur-1.

Rai, who was elected as the chairman of Limchungbung Rural Municipality for a second term by the then CPN-Maoist, wanted to be the candidate from Udayapur Constituency No. 2, but he filed his nominations as an independent after not getting a ticket. In his place, the Nepali Communist Party has nominated Suresh Kumar Rai (Himal). Thirteen candidates, including one independent, are in the fray in Udayapur-2.
