The situation has become tense after one person died after being hit by a truck at the main square in Itahari.

Purna Prasad Rai of Gairi village, Itahari-4, was killed in a truck accident this evening. Locals said he died on the spot. 

After Rai's death, a large number of locals have resorted to vandalism and arson, alleging that the police had collected the bond without the relatives. Angry locals have also attacked a police team led by DSP Subash Hamal of the Area Police Office, Itahari. 

Journalist Manoj Bhujel, who is at the scene, said that the situation there is still tense. Bhujel said that the police have called in additional teams to normalize the situation.
