The government has declared Sonam Lhochhar, celebrated on the first day of Magh Shukla Pratipada, a national festival since 2061 BS.
The Nepal Tamang Ghedung Dharan Sub-metropolitan Working Committee has celebrated the 2862nd (Fire Man Horse Year) Sonam Lhochhar in a grand manner with a large cultural tableau rally.
On Monday, a rally was organized by the Municipal Committee from all 20 wards of Dharan and various monasteries with tableaus reflecting the original customs, culture and costumes of the Tamang community.
The rally ended after reaching Bhanuchowk again via Chhata Chowk, Singha Devi Chowk, Purano Bazaar and Deshi Line.
At the program, Nepal Tamang Ghedung Dharan Sub-metropolitan City President Sapan Kumar Yonjan Tamang said that all castes should respect each other's religion and culture.
On the occasion of Sonam Lhochhar, an exhibition reflecting historical and cultural identity, Tamang dishes, costumes, Chhok Prasad and Sagun Grahan programs were also held in Bhanuchowk. According to President Tamang, this festival has also been celebrated as a cultural tourism festival for the past years.
The government has declared Sonam Lhochhar, which has been celebrated on the day of Magh Shukla Pratipada since 2061 BS, as a national festival. Tamang cello dance was performed from all 20 wards of Dharan at the event.
