Traffic has resumed operations after the installation of a bailey bridge over the Sunkoshi River at Phoksingtar under the Sagarmatha Highway (Gaighat-Diktel Road).
The transport operation started on Saturday after the completion of the connection of the bailey bridge over the Sunkoshi River connecting Licchi Ramche of Khotehang Rural Municipality-9 and Aanpatar of Rautamai Rural Municipality-5 of Udayapur, said Engineer Suman Gole, Information Officer of the Gaighat-Diktel Road Planning Office, Udayapur.
The contract for the installation of the bailey bridge was taken by MA/S Aryan Construction Multi Purpose Pvt. Ltd. The contract was taken for Rs. 96,77,937 including Value Added Tax (VAT). The temporary bailey bridge had to be installed after the concrete bridge at that place was washed away by the flood on Asoj 12, 2081.
After the connection of the bailey bridge, the district has a direct transport connection with the Terai. This has been convenient for the people of the district, said Rajan Acharya, President of the Khotang Chamber of Commerce and Industry. ‘Direct transport has become easier after the operation,’ said Acharya, ‘not only daily necessities, but also construction materials have become easier for passengers.’
The work of installing a bailey bridge on the Sunkoshi River, which borders Barahapokhari Rural Municipality-5, Khotang, Bangshilaghat, and Chaudandigadi Municipality-1, Udayapur, is in full swing, said Shalikram Banjara, Chairman of Barahapokhari Rural Municipality. Gurukul Builders and Suppliers Pvt. Ltd. has taken over the work of connecting the bailey bridge with an investment of Rs 5.7 million from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, Koshi Province Government.
