Lila Kumar Chauhan, the ward chairman of Bualung, Diktel Rupakot, Majhuwagadhi Municipality-8, who was handed over to the police by locals for allegedly assaulting and beating a woman while under the influence of alcohol, has been released after apologizing.
Chauhan, who was handed over to the police by locals after he allegedly assaulted and beat Khadga Bahadur Khatri's wife Uma in Diktel on Sunday night after consuming alcohol, was released on Monday after a discussion at the police office.
After Chauhan apologized in writing, Khadga Bahadur Khatri said that a settlement was reached on the condition that he would not repeat the mistake from now on. After entering the house and assaulting and beating Uma, the locals took her into custody and handed her over to the District Police Office that night. She said that she entered by slamming the door at night and that Uma screamed for help and assaulted her and hit her with her helmet.
According to neighbor Rajan Sainju, Chauhan entered Khatri's house looking for Action Dahal, an employee of the Infrastructure Development Office. Sainju says that when Chauhan beat up a woman and created unrest in the neighborhood, he reported it to the police, but the police did not arrive at the scene.
Police Inspector Sushant Mishra, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Khotang, said that a reconciliation was reached after Chauhan admitted his mistake and apologized.
