The 'Indo-Nepal Mechinagar Media Cup' football tournament is being organized in Jhapa with the aim of promoting tourism and increasing brotherhood between journalists from the two countries.
The tournament is being organized by the Press Club Mechinagar, an umbrella organization of journalists on the eastern border. The tournament will be held at the playground of Kakadbhitta Secondary School, said the organizing organization's chairman Prakash Poudel. According to him, two Indian teams, India Press Club Siliguri and Terai Press Club Darjeeling, will participate in the tournament, while six Nepali teams, Bhadrapur Press Club, Arjundhara Press Club, Buddhashanti Press Club, Damak Journalists Forum, Kankai Press Club and the organizer, will participate. According to the organizer, the winner of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Similarly, the runner-up will receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000. The organizer has also informed that the best player, highest scorer, best goalkeeper, etc. will be awarded with cash prizes throughout the tournament. The organizer said that the tournament is being organized with the main objective of establishing brotherhood between the two countries through sports and promoting Nepal's tourism sector to the maximum.
The cost of completing the competition is estimated at around 800,000 rupees. He said that cooperation has been sought from the local government and organizations active in this field to manage the cost.
