A scooter driver has died in a road accident that occurred on the East-West Highway near Kalikhola Bridge in Mechinagar Municipality-6.
On Thursday afternoon, a scooty with the registration number Province 1-01-013 Pa 5888, which was heading west from Kakadbhitta, was hit from behind by a cargo truck with the Indian number plate PV 02 BR 7765 coming from the same direction.
The scooty driver, Laxmi Sah, 33, a resident of Mechinagar Municipality-6, was seriously injured in the accident. She was taken to Amda Hospital, Dhulabari for treatment, but was declared dead by the doctors at 9:15 pm. The body of the deceased has been kept in the same hospital.
The truck driver involved in the accident, Sandeep Singh, 36, a resident of Bholebaba, Amritsar district, Punjab state, India, has been taken into custody by the Area Police Office, Kakadbhitta. The truck is also under police control. Further investigation into the incident is underway, the police said.
