The family of local Vijay Sah, who died in a gunshot wound by the Armed Police Force in Laukahi, Sunsari, has identified the body.

According to DIG Kumar Nyupane of the Armed Police Force Barah Bahini Pakali, the body of the deceased was handed over to the family after the postmortem.

The Armed Police Force deployed to control smuggling opened fire on 45-year-old Sah at around 1 am on Wednesday. The Armed Police Force claims that he died in a double encounter while he was smuggling goods from the border area in two/three CT Safaris and auto rickshaws. However, the family of the deceased and the locals have rejected this.

According to DIG Nyupane, the responsible Armed Police Force Sunsari SP Nirmal Kumar Thapa, Border Security Force Haripur DSP Ganesh Dutt Pandey, and Laukahi BOP Chief Manish Kumar Katuwal have been called to the force.

After Sah's death, a committee formed to investigate the incident was formed at a meeting held at the District Administration Office on Thursday between the deceased's family, local public representatives and security officials and agreed to provide the deceased's family with one lakh rupees for immediate expenses.

Immediately after that, a committee was formed under the coordination of Sunsari's Assistant Chief District Officer Ghanshyam Neupane, with DSP Chandra Bahadur Khadka of the District Police Office, Sunsari, and Investigation Officer Sabina Khanal of the National Investigation Department, Sunsari as members.

The committee has started its work from today. The committee has been given time to submit its report within seven days.
