An agreement has been reached to form a committee to investigate the death of local youth Vijay Sah in Sunsari due to gunfire from the Armed Police Force.
A five-point agreement was reached at a meeting of stakeholders at the District Administration Office on Thursday to defuse the tension that arose after the death of a local youth, Sah, in a gunfight. According to the agreement, a committee will be formed under the coordination of the Chief District Officer to investigate the death of Sah, a young man shot by the Armed Police Force. The investigation committee will include representatives from the Koshi Province Office of the Nepal Police and the National Investigation District Office. The committee has agreed to submit a report within seven days. After receiving the investigation report, it has been agreed that if the death is found to have been due to the negligence of the security officer, a recommendation will be made to the Ministry of Home Affairs for relief and compensation as per the prevailing rules. Similarly, it has been agreed that the Chief District Officer will take the initiative and facilitate the provision of employment to the wife of the deceased Sah. It has also been agreed that if the son of the deceased wishes to join the Armed Police Force, the Armed Police Force No. 1 Barah Bahini will provide necessary support and facilitation as per the rules.
It was also agreed to hand over the body of the deceased Sah to the Nepal Police for postmortem and then cremate the deceased's family, informed Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the district administration, security agencies and the victim's side. After the agreement, the situation in the Laikahi area is expected to gradually return to normal.
45-year-old Sah died on the spot when the Armed Police Force deployed to control smuggling opened fire at around 1 am on Wednesday.
Kumar Neupane, DIG of the Armed Police Force Barah Bahini Pakali, said that a double clash took place with the police while they were smuggling goods from the border area in two/three whistle safaris and auto rickshaws.
