National Assembly elections officially begin in Koshi

What you should know

The formal process of the National Assembly member election has begun in Koshi Province. The office of the Election Officer was established at the Provincial Election Office, Biratnagar on Wednesday to make the election management smooth and transparent.

The Election Commission has assigned District Court Morang Judge Bhishma Raj Prasain as the Election Officer for the National Assembly elections. Inaugurating the office, he expressed his commitment to conduct the elections in a fair and dignified manner.

Assistant Election Officer Hem Bahadur Budhathoki, who has been implementing the election schedule with the establishment of the office, informed. According to him, the final voter list will be published on Poush 19, while the time for registering candidates' claims and objections has been fixed from Poush 23 to 27. The election symbol will be given on Poush 28.

This time, three National Assembly members are being elected from women, Dalits and other groups in Koshi Province. There are indications that the seats of Dalits and women's groups, which are considered sensitive in terms of representation, will make the strategies and alliances of political parties more active. This is also expected to have a significant impact on the upcoming political equation and balance of power.

A total of 367 voters, including local level and provincial assembly members, will participate in the elections. Of which, 274 are local level people's representatives and 93 are provincial assembly members. According to the voting system, the voting weight of provincial assembly members has been set at 53 and the voting weight of local level chiefs and deputy chiefs at 19, which makes the role of provincial assembly members relatively decisive.

While internal homework is intensifying among political parties, the National Assembly elections have gained formal momentum in Koshi with the establishment of the office of the Returning Officer. The next few days seem to be important in terms of political coordination, candidate selection, and equation.
