A five-day 'Historical Sekaha Festival' is being held in the historical and touristic village of Sekaha located in Khandbari Municipality-4 of Sankhuwasabha.
The 5-day festival, organized from Friday with the aim of introducing local art, culture and identity at the national level, will establish Sekaha as a new tourist destination, said Khandbari Municipality Mayor Mahesh Thapaliya.
The festival, organized by the Sekaha Community Development Club, includes musical programs, observation of Sekaha village and tourist areas, tourism promotion and homestay inspection, cultural tableau performances of different ethnic groups, and exhibitions of agricultural and domestic products. Sekaha has a dense Gurung community.
Similarly, the Tamu Lhosar festival will be celebrated collectively on this occasion with the participation of the Tamu (Gurung) community from across the district, according to the organizers. Chhelo throwing, rope pulling, pot breaking, traditional dance and sports programs have also started in the festival.
Organized on the occasion of Tamu Lhosar, the main festival of the Tamu (Gurung) community, the festival will create an atmosphere of excitement, cultural beauty and brotherhood in Sekahama for five days, according to the organizers. The festival will help preserve local culture, promote tourism and expand the market for local products, said organizing committee chairman Maniraj Gurung.
