The BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan is set to operate a 'Central Lab' by integrating laboratory services.

According to the institute, all laboratory testing services will be provided 24/7 through the Central Lab by merging the currently operating Emergency Lab and Routine Lab.

According to the institute's spokesperson, Prof. Dr. Anju Pradhan, it has been decided to operate the 'Central Lab' by merging the Emergency Lab and Routine Lab from 5th of May. According to her, the tests will be conducted through automatic, semi-automatic and kit-based technology.

The target is to provide reports for patients of Emergency and EHS services within two hours of receiving the sample, while reports for patients of OPD and IPD services will be provided within three hours, she said.

The information issued by the spokesperson Pradhan states that the dual process of sending samples separately to the routine and emergency labs will end.

Earlier, only limited types of tests were being conducted from the emergency lab. After the central lab comes into operation, the institute has stated that all types of laboratory tests will be available 24 hours a day through a single system.

According to the institute, lab sample collection for emergency, IPD and EHS services will be 24 hours a day. For OPD services and external referrals, samples will be collected from 7 am to 4 pm from Falgun to Kartik. The time has been fixed from 7 am to 12 noon on Friday.

Similarly, the institute has announced that samples will be collected from 7 am to 3 pm from Mangsir to Magh, while on Fridays, samples will be collected from 7 am to 12 noon. The institute has stated that after the operation of the central lab, the laboratory service will be more organized and effective.
