Farmer Bhim Kumar Thapa has been honored for his significant contribution to the agricultural sector in Panchkhapan Municipality-6.
Farmer Thapa had succeeded in producing more than 60 muri of paddy this year. Thapa was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 on Thursday as the farmer who produced the most paddy in Panchkhapan Municipality.
Panchkhapan-6 Ward Chairman Bishnu Shrestha said that the award was given to boost the morale of farmers and provide production-based incentives. 'The development of the agricultural sector is not possible unless the hard work of farmers is respected. Production-based awards will also attract other farmers towards modern and commercial farming,' he said.
Farmer Thapa said that high production was possible due to improving the traditional farming system with modern technology, improved seeds, timely use of fertilizers and regular irrigation management. He said that the support of his family, the support of the local government and continuous hard work were the main reasons for his success.
After learning from Thapa, other farmers have also started taking paddy farming forward commercially. Farmers say that self-reliance in the agricultural sector can be achieved if the local government adopts a policy of respecting and encouraging farmers. Panchkhapan-6 has stated that it will continue the production-based farmer respect, training, seed and technology support programs in the coming days.
