Shubhachandra Rai and Suman Rai of Ward No. 5 got into a fight on Sunday while monitoring and observing the market slope work project being carried out in Chisapani Bazaar of the rural municipality.
Sub-engineer Ramesh Kumar Yadav of Jantedhunga Rural Municipality has been assaulted. Shubhachandra Rai and Suman Rai of Ward No. 5 assaulted him on Sunday while monitoring and observing the market slope work project being carried out in Chisapani Bazaar of the rural municipality.
The employees working in the rural municipality issued a statement on Sunday, saying that the assault on the employees during the monitoring was undesirable, objectionable and condemnable, and that the work will remain suspended until the legal action against those involved in the incident is finalized.
Stating that any kind of abuse, assault, threat or violence against employees involved in public service delivery is unacceptable, they have also demanded the relevant bodies to conduct the necessary investigation and take strict action against the culprits as per the law.
An eyewitness said that the assault appeared to have been intentional. ‘Although the issue of the ballast used to make the market slope was raised, it was seen that the assault was intentional,’ he said. ‘After the engineer said not to use it for the slope, they found an excuse that the piled ballast should be moved elsewhere, and then they started assaulting.’
A team including Rural Municipality Chair Aruna Devi Rai, Vice Chair Khem Bahadur Khadka, and Chief Administrative Officer Suman Guragain participated in the slope monitoring.
Chief District Officer Kalpana Shrestha said that the complaint regarding the incident has been forwarded to the police.
