Congress recommends same-old faces in all 6 constituencies of Morang for House of Representatives

What you should know

Even though the Nepali Congress Morang has recommended candidates for all six constituencies for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 10, priority has been given to old leaders and activists over new faces.

Although the new generation is expected to take over the electoral leadership in the district, the fact that the recommendation list is active for decades in the 'old power group' has become a topic of discussion within the party.

District President Dik Bahadur Limbu has been recommended as the first priority in Morang-1. Limbu, who has been holding the organizational leadership in Congress Morang for a long time, had previously claimed from the same constituency.

Minendra Rijal's name is also said to be ahead in constituency number 2. Rijal is a personality who has contested elections at various levels or has been active in leadership before.

Sunil Sharma has been recommended as a candidate again in Morang-3. Sharma won from the same constituency last time.

In Morang-4, even though Mahesh Acharya was recommended as the first priority, no one from the new generation could come forward. Along with Acharya, the names of old leaders like Gururaj Ghimire, Dilip Ranjitkar, and Binod Kumar Bannet are on the list.

Hasan Ansari is the first to be recommended in Morang-5. Ansari is a Muslim leader who has been active at the local level and within the party for a long time.

Shekhar Koirala has been recommended in constituency number 6. Koirala also won from this constituency last time.

After the recommendation list was made public, young workers in Morang are raising questions on social media, 'Why is the leader who said he would hand over the leadership again being recommended?'

Some youth and women's groups within Congress Morang have also accused internal democracy of weakening. They believe that the possibility of a leadership change in the recommendation process is low.
