The 8th national convention of Dumi Rai Phansikim has begun. The convention began on Tuesday at Kharmi, Diktel Rupakot, Majhuwagadhi Municipality-11.
Dumi Rais from all over the country and abroad have gathered for the two-day convention. Dumi Kirat Rais from Nepal, Sikkim, Darjeeling, Hong Kong, America and Britain have gathered in Rudhalung in Kharmi.
The convention will elect new leadership, approve financial and organizational reports and formulate future strategies, said Tejmaya Murah Dumi Rai, general secretary of the organizer Dumi Kirat Rai Fansikim. The convention has been organized on the occasion of the Ubhauli of the Kirat community.
The convention was inaugurated by Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality Mayor Tirtharaj Bhattarai by reading the banner and Mundumi Kubi (Pitre Dhami) by worshipping three hearths.
Mundumi Bakhan was performed by Sakela Sili, Maruni, Kubi and Tayatang at the convention inauguration. Mayor Bhattarai said that since Khotang is a Kirat land, Kirat script has also been included in the municipality's letter pad. He also said that the municipality has played a role in preserving Kirati culture.
Chaturbhakta Rai, a cultural expert who collected, wrote and edited the genealogy of the Dumi Kirat Rais, which took about 32 years to prepare, has been honored with a turban and a copper plate by Phansikim. The program was attended by Bishan Rai, Deputy Mayor of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, Sameer Rai, Chairman of Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality, Birkaji Rai, Central Chairman of Sampang Rai Jumlekha, Ikh Bahadur Rai, Ward Chairman of Kharmi, Dan Bahadur Rai, Ward Chairman of Jalpa, Madhav Rai, and other cultural experts.
