UML leader and former minister Mahesh Basnet has called the act of spraying red paint on him as terrorism.
Leader Basnet said this while addressing the Youth Awareness Campaign organized by the National Youth Association Nepal Koshi Province Committee in Itahari on Sunday. The vehicle he was travelling in was sprayed with paint during the day while leaving the Biratnagar Airport premises.
Basnet, who came to Itahari from Biratnagar Airport despite the obstruction at Duhabi in Sunsari, said that he was ready to face such terrorist activities even if he was attacked hundreds of times. Targeting the attempts to disrupt various programs he was participating in, Basnet said that attempts were made to thwart his right to move freely. He expressed anger over the government's failure to stop such activities.
After protests against Basnet at Biratnagar Airport and Duhabi in Sunsari, the police brought him to the program venue in Itahari amidst tight security, and a large number of police were deployed at the program venue.
After finishing the program, Basnet reached Biratnagar via another route this evening. He left Itahari for Biratnagar via Biratchowk-Jhorahat, informed Subash Hamal, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Area Police Office, Itahari. Basnet is scheduled to return to Kathmandu today.
