Seventy-two people, including outgoing member of the House of Representatives Suhang Nembang, have registered their candidacies in Ilam for the upcoming 11th National General Convention of the CPN-UML.
The election committee formed by UML Ilam started the candidacy registration process on Saturday for the general convention scheduled for November 11 to 12.
In the process, the candidacies of outgoing MP Suhang Nembang elected from Ilam constituency number 2 and another outgoing MP Mahesh Basnet elected from constituency number 1 have been filed.
The election committee has stated that 42 candidates have been registered in the competition for the 10 representatives to be elected from Ilam constituency number 2. 24 candidates have been registered in the open category, 8 in the women category and 10 in the youth category.
20 candidates have been registered for the 9 representatives to be elected from constituency number 1. Out of which 18 candidates have filed their candidacies for the open category, 6 in the women category and 6 in the youth category. Devendra Bishwakarma has been unanimously elected as the representative for the Dalit category. UML has 4,821 party members in Ilam constituency number 1 and 5,781 in constituency number 2.
Similarly, the CPN-UML has stated that there are 447 Dalit members. UML has stated that it will try to get all the representatives unanimously and if this is not possible, it will hold elections in all the wards simultaneously on Mangsir 13.
