The construction of Triyuga Bus Park in Udayapur has been stalled due to the contractor's negligence. The bus park, which was supposed to be completed and operational four years ago, has been left stranded.
Considering the increasing urbanization and population pressure, the construction of the bus park, which was started in 2076 BS as a model bus park in Koshi Province, has gone 'missing', leaving the contractor company incomplete. Although Raman IS MD JV was awarded the contract to construct a new bus park with state-of-the-art facilities on the northern bank of the Triyuga River in Gaighat, Triyuga Municipality-12, the construction has been left unfinished as it was abandoned midway.
An agreement was signed with the Nepal government to construct the bus park in Asad 2076 BS at a cost of about Rs 130 million to complete the work by Poush 29, 2078 BS, targeting the Visit Nepal Year 2020. Triyuga Municipality Mayor Basanta Basnet said that although the municipality has taken the initiative to manage the necessary budget for the construction of the Triyuga Bus Park, which is being built in a modern style to make the Triyuga Civilization and Development Program a success, the construction of the bus park has remained incomplete due to the contractor's negligence.
‘Local resources and other support were provided to the contractor company for the construction of the bus park, but now the construction company has disappeared after abandoning the work,’ he said. Surendra Kumar Sah, Chief of the Intensive Urban Development and Building Construction Office, Morang, said that the work that was started after preparing the design estimate of the bus park to brighten up the appearance of Gaighat Bazaar, which is a developed city, has not been completed.
According to Project Chief Sah, the best and model bus park in Koshi Province is being built, including a terminal building, clock tower, passenger waiting room, maintenance center, cafeteria, public toilets and shopping complex.
Since the construction company Raman IS SB Builders Janakpur has not completed the construction yet, it is being fined daily at the rate of 0.5 percent of the contract amount and that amount will be deducted during the bill payment, said Project Chief Sah. The deadline for the construction company has been extended six times and the last extension has only one month left, said Side Engineer Shravan Yadav.
In the absence of a well-organized bus park, buses are parked on the side of the road and on the banks of the Triyuga River. Currently, more than 150 passenger buses operate daily from Gaighat in Udayapur, which has been operating continuously since 2042 BS.
Although a well-equipped bus park is finally being built after three decades of hard work and effort, transport entrepreneurs have said that it is unfortunate that the plan is currently stalled. 'As the bus park was not built on time, buses have had to be parked on the banks of the Triyuga, transport workers and passengers have had to suffer due to mud and dust in the rains and winter,' said transport entrepreneur Krishna Bhandari.
The Lahan-Gaighat-Diktel road and the Madan Bhandari highway connecting Dharan-Chatara, Gaighat-Katari to Hetauda have connected Gaighat in all four directions, east, west and north-south.
