During the Gen-G movement, 22 weapons were looted from Jhapa, of which only 2 have been recovered.
Two weapons and some bullets looted from the Area Police Office in Damak, Jhapa, have been found in a cave in Miklajung Rural Municipality, Panchthar.
The District Police Office, Panchthar, has stated that one of the three found was burnt. A joint team of police deployed from Jhapa and Panchthar recovered the weapons on Wednesday evening, informed DSP Anish Kumar Karna, Chief of the District Police Office, Panchthar. The materials were found hidden in a forest den in Arubote, Miklajung Rural Municipality-3.
The police found them while searching based on the statement of Sushil Fiak, 22, of Miklajung-3, Panchthar, who was arrested on charges of arson and robbery at the Police Office in Damak during the Genji movement. The weapons found in this way include a 303 Mark-3 rifle with a magazine, a burnt INSAS butt and hand-grip, an INSAS combat round and three SLR combat rounds, according to the police.
The recovered weapons have been kept safe after completing forensic and legal procedures. A case has been registered against the arrested Fiaak for weapons and ammunition related offenses and necessary investigation is underway.
22 weapons were looted from Jhapa during the Genji movement. Only 2 of them have been found. The remaining 20 weapons are missing. The police have stated that the search for the missing weapons is underway.
