Four houses burnt down in fire at Tembewa Bazaar in Taplejung, causing damage worth crores

Four houses have been completely burnt down in a fire at Tembewa Bazaar in Mikwakhola Rural Municipality-4, Sanwa.

Five families have been displaced, including those who live and do business. According to local Gajendra Thalang, the houses of Rajkumar Sanwa, Indra Kumar Sanwa, Bishnu Sanwa and Anil Sanwa have been burnt down in the fire. He says that the shops of Dorchi Sherpa and Pasang Phutti Sherpa, who run shops in these houses, have been completely burnt down.

A motorcycle that was parked suddenly caught fire around 10:30 pm on Tuesday and when local youths who saw it tried to turn it towards the drain, it turned towards the house, Thalang informed. Even though locals and a team of Nepali Army from Mewa Developer Hydro Company arrived, they could not control the fire and everything was burnt down, he said.

He said that the damage is estimated to be worth crores of rupees as there were around 50 to 60 bags of cardamom here. It was warehoused here on Wednesday morning to be taken to the district headquarters, Phungling. Currently, cardamom is worth around one lakh per bag.

Located next to the Fungfunge waterfall, it was also the trading center of Papung and Sanwa.
