The general public who have registered for the name registration process have not received service even after waiting for hours.
The District Election Office, Panchthar, has become without a chief. Although the Election Commission continues to compile voter lists, the service has been affected due to the absence of an acting chief along with the chief.
The chief here has not been transferred for a month and the new chief has not arrived. Nayab Subba Suman Khadka, who was given the responsibility of acting, is also on leave. Citizens who have come to register their new names in the voter list at the District Election Office have been facing confusion. The general public who have been listed for the name registration process have not received service even after waiting for hours.
Only three days are left for the deadline given by the commission to register their names in the voter list. Santosh Rai, who came from Falelung-6, said that the office has been saying that the commission's system is not working and has not been able to speed up the work.
This office, which does not have a chief or an acting chief, is currently led by computer operator Ashok Ghising. He and his staff are facilitating the registration of names. While service recipients expressed dissatisfaction with the work being done by the office, Ghising said that the work was delayed because the system was not working.
On Thursday, more than a hundred service recipients who reached the election office at 3 pm were standing in a queue waiting for their turn. They complain that the staff who had initially waited saying that the system was working turned them away saying that there would be no work in the afternoon.
Recently, around a thousand new voters have been added to Panchthar. Most of them are youth.
