Januka Limbu of Dharan-14 had a childhood dream of paragliding. When she was little, she used to see balloons flying in the sky from Vijayapur hill. Her dream has come true after 10 years. Limbu said that she felt the joy of flying in the sky while drinking kava. ‘One of my dreams has come true and I am very happy,’ she said, ‘This moment of flying in the sky for the first time is an unforgettable moment of my life.’ She says that she is happy to be able to fly in this way from her own place easily and without going far. She said that the paragliding service in the east has made it easier for the citizens of the east and those interested in it.

With the opening of the weather, commercial paragliding flights have resumed from Dharan from Monday.’ Dharan Sky Adventure Paragliding Pvt. Ltd. has started regular flight services from Chhoti Morang in Dharan Sub-metropolitan City-4 of Sunsari, and the number of tourists has increased.’ He said that paragliding has been taking place from Chhoti Morang in Dharan-4 for the past 10 years. He said that up to 300 people have taken paragliding in the past years. ‘Tourists are starting to decrease in this area now. Last year, only 40 people flew,’ he said. He also said that some hope has arisen with the declaration of Koshi Province Tourism Year 2082.’
With the opening of the weather, Chairman Adhikari said that regular paragliding flights have been started in Dharan. According to him, seven people have taken paragliding flights in a week.
Paragliding, which started from Sarangkot in Pokhara, had become a popular destination in the country, but now Dharan is also becoming a tourist attraction and popular destination for paragliding. The paragliding flight starts from Choti Morang and circles around Dharan Bazaar, landing on the banks of Dharan Stadium, Buddha Subba Temple premises and Seuti Khola. In the approximately 30-minute air journey, tourists will be able to see the beautiful scenery of Dharan and its surroundings, Bhedetar, the upper part of the Saptakoshi River and the beautiful places in the mountains. According to the operator Adhikari, a single flight will cost 7,000 rupees. The trip also includes the facility to take photos and videos.
With the start of the tourist season, the number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Dharan Bhedetar has increased. Chairman Adhikari says that the influx of tourists has given rise to some hope. 'Paragliding flights have also been affected due to Corona,' he said, 'Paragliding flights had done good business before that, but compared to that, the business has not yet flourished like before. It is improving.'
After paragliding flights started, tourists have also started coming from places like Bihar, Biratnagar, Itahari, Jhapa and other places in India. According to Adhikari, they completed pilot training and technical preparations to operate paragliding in Dharan and started it commercially. 'We have started commercial flights to further expand the tourist attraction of Dharan and Bhedetar,' he said, 'This will greatly help in promoting Dharan's domestic and foreign tourism.'
Sunsari Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Gopal Shrestha said that the regular operation of paragliding flights in Dharan has added new energy to the local tourism industry. 'The specialty of Dharan is that you can observe the views of the Terai, hills and mountains,' he said. This will attract not only domestic tourists to Dharan, but also tourists from various cities in India. He said that he hopes that this will also have a positive impact on the hotel, transportation and restaurant businesses that have slowed down due to Corona. In the east, paragliding is currently being operated in Belka-Buktang Danda in Udayapur along with Dharan.
