Representatives of the Gen-G Group of Taplejung, who have been pressuring the Olangchungola Customs Office, which has been closed for years, have reached the Customs Department in Kathmandu on Sunday in search of employees. They have met the Chief of the Customs Department and the Chief of Administration and requested that the Olangchungola Customs Office staff be sent immediately.
Earlier, the results of the interaction program between people's representatives, political parties and civil society in the district were also conveyed to the department head.
The team led by Dinesh Sigdel and Mukesh Karki of Gen G said that they have received an assurance that the employees will be sent within 15 days.
'The employees who are posted there are elsewhere,' said Dinesh, 'The head of administration of the customs department has said that they will send them within a week to 15 days after looking at the details of the employees.'
Deputy Director General (Management and Compliance Division) of the Customs Department Bharatmani Pandey also spoke to Ward Chairman of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-7, Cheten Sherpa Lama, on Sunday regarding the support received from the locals during the establishment of the customs office.
Ward Chairman Lama had earlier applied for the provision of one deputy subba and one office assistant.
