The Bhadrapur border checkpoint in Jhapa will be closed for 72 hours, targeting the assembly elections that have begun in the bordering Indian state of Bihar.

The assembly elections in Bihar have begun on November 6, i.e. today. The second phase of elections is being held there on November 11, i.e. 25 Kartik. The Bhadrapur border crossing, which is directly connected to the state of Bihar, will be closed for 72 hours, according to the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 2 Battalion, Jhapa.

According to the Armed Police Force, the border crossing will be closed from 5 pm on Saturday, November 8, i.e. 22 Kartik, to Tuesday, November 11, i.e. 25 Kartik.

The first phase of elections in Bihar began on Thursday. However, the border crossing has not been closed yet. An Armed Police Force official said that although the border crossing has been tightened on both sides of the Nepal-India border, movement has not been stopped.

According to the official, the Indian side has verbally said that no formal letter has been received regarding the closure of the border crossing. 'When the elections are held on the Nepal side, the Indian side will provide assistance and when the elections are held on the Indian side, Nepal has been providing assistance.' Accordingly, the border checkpoint is being completely sealed targeting the elections. The Indian side has asked for the checkpoint to be completely sealed,' the official said. It is said that citizens of both countries will be prohibited from entering the border when the checkpoint is closed.

Today, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Araria, Bihar to address an election rally. Security personnel from both countries have also increased vigilance on the Nepal-India border targeting Modi's rally.
