The Koshi Provincial Police Office is prioritizing the campaign to control illegal drugs throughout the province.
Koshi Province Police have destroyed and uprooted illegal and self-grown marijuana plantations in various places in Dhankuta and Bhojpur. Continuing the marijuana control campaign being conducted by the Province Police Office, Biratnagar under the 'Security Assurance Campaign', the police have destroyed marijuana plants spread over hundreds of ropanis in the two districts.
According to the Koshi Province Police Office, on Kartik 18, a police team deployed from the Chhintang Area Police Office of Dhankuta conducted an intensive search and eradication campaign targeting various side gardens and surrounding areas of the forest of Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality-2. Police sources said that during the campaign, about 9,500 marijuana plants that had grown naturally in an area of about 5 ropanis were uprooted and burned on the spot.
Similarly, the police have also launched a comprehensive campaign to control illegal marijuana cultivation in Bhojpur district. A joint team deployed from the Ghodetar Area Police Office and subordinate police posts uprooted and burned more than 1,100 marijuana plants planted in various side gardens and growing spontaneously in an area of about 9 ropanis under Hatuwagadhi Rural Municipality.
According to the police, there is a plan to further strengthen the program to control marijuana cultivation by coordinating with the local community. The police have also said that preparations have been made to bring those involved in illegal drug cultivation to justice.
