Discussions have begun in Taplejung regarding the House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21. The Office of the Election Officer has begun the first phase of discussions with political parties and local level people's representatives regarding polling stations and polling places.
Election Officer Bandavaraj Dulal informed that eight political parties including Congress District President Gajendra Prasad Tumyahang, UML Secretary Santosh Chamling, Maoist Center Coordinator Bishnu Hangwang, CPN-S Secretary Mohan Neupane, RPP's Tej Bahadur Gurung, JSP's Surya Tamu, Rastriya Janmuktika's Motilal Limbu and Mongol National Organization's Santa Bahadur Limbu were present in the discussion.
The discussion program held at the District Administration Office was chaired by Election Committee Coordinator and Chief District Officer Shivaraj Sedai. Phungling Municipality Mayor Amir Maden, Meringden Rural Municipality Chairman Yuk Hanbir Hangam, Sirijanga Chairman Lal Krishna Chauhan, Mikwakhola Chairman Bhakta Bahadur Karki and Phaktanglung Rural Municipality Vice Chairman Bikash Samra were present in the meeting. All of them are elected chiefs and deputy chiefs from Congress. Pathibhara Yangwarak Chairman Keshar Limbu, elected from UML, and Maiwakhola Rural Municipality Spokesperson Chandra Tamang, elected from Maoist, were present.
Dulal said that the discussion focused on the addition and modification of the current polling stations and polling centers. According to him, opinions have been taken from political parties and people's representatives regarding the polling stations and locations with a recommendation to be made by the end of this month.
Letters have already been sent to the ward to recommend. Phungling Municipality, Mikwakhola, Phaktanglung, Maiwakhola and Sirijanga Rural Municipality have proposed to add polling stations and change centers. Now, after the ward recommends with the details of the voters, the meeting has been concluded to discuss again.
So far, the statistics office has 75 polling stations and 123 polling centers in the district. The participants said that all those who participated in the discussion advocated in favor of the election.
