Domestic and foreign tourists, who were concentrated in Ghunsa 6 of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, are heading towards their respective destinations after the weather turned bad.

Chyume Sherpa, a tourism entrepreneur and teacher at Ghunsa Basic School, informed that tourists have started leaving Ghunsa since Sunday morning after the weather cleared. Chyume said, "It has been raining and snowing since yesterday. Since the weather has cleared since this morning, everyone is leaving for their respective destinations after paying their hotel bills." He informed over the phone that those returning to the district headquarters, Phungling, have left Ghunsa since 5 am. He said that those going to the northern and southern base camps of Kanchenjunga have also started walking in mud huts. Chyume said that those going to the northern base camp, Pangpe, have reached Khambachen and will go to the base camp only tomorrow, so the road is fine.

‘The snow on the road is melting due to the sun, people have to walk a little bit to make the road,’ he added, ‘The locals are also providing full support.’ He said that those going to the southern base camp are also heading towards their destination as the sun has cleared the road.

Due to snowfall and continuous rain, tourists from Kanchenjunga had concentrated in Ghunsa. All the hotels and houses in Ghunsa were full of tourists, informed Amir Rai, a tourism entrepreneur who returned from there.

‘Since my team can walk, let’s return to the district headquarters even though it was raining a little,’ he added, ‘There was such a crowd that it was difficult to find accommodation even in the houses in Ghunsa, but the locals had made arrangements for everyone.’

According to Tashi Sherpa, Ghunsa Tourism Assistant of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, more than 300 foreign tourists are visiting the area this season. He said that there will be a lot of tourists throughout the month of Kartik.
