Students, including the president of the Self-Employed University, are on a sit-in protest, demanding various six points, including the quality of education at Dharan's Central Technical Campus, Hattisar.
In the meeting of the campus board of directors held on Saturday, SBU President Peshal Raj Karki and Treasurer Namchhahang Rai have been on a dharna since Sunday with a 6-point demand, saying that the issues of concern of the students were not addressed. They said that they will sit on a dharna for an hour every day from 10 am until the demand is met.
According to President Karki, even though the campus is autonomous, there is confusion about which of the guidelines of Tribhuvan University and the guidelines of autonomy should be followed, the reason for wanting to increase the student quota should be clarified even though the number of students passing is decreasing, the campus administration meeting should be live on social media and the campus officials should stay until office hours.
Similarly, they demand that the tax clearance paid annually should be made public, and that the details of income and expenditure after the campus became autonomous in the form of grants from various bodies should be made public.
According to SwaviU President Karki, he had to launch the agitation because he had submitted various demands to the administration since the previous SwaviU leadership, but those demands were not met. He also said that everyone should work for improvement as the academic quality of the campus is deteriorating.
Campus Head Professor Basanta Kumar Rai said that they will hold talks to fulfill the demands raised by the students as they are in the interest of the campus. He said that after the demand letter is officially received, a discussion will be held to find solutions.
